In this sense, this work investigated the contents of digital colors in higher education courses in design, from the perspective of its adequacy to the current needs of using digital tools.

In digital age, technological advancement has expanded visual resources and changed the nature of design process. At same time, the new techniques required new skills and knowledge, to allow for exploitation of qualified resources and the quality of final products. When leaving the materiality of analog supports and assuming digital formats, graphic design acquired a specific need for color manipulation.

This article reports a research of mixed nature (qualitative and quantitative) and exploratory-descriptive character, carried out in two stages: (i) analysis of the curricular matrices and pedagogical projects of twelve graphic design courses offered by Brazilian public education institutions; and (ii) a survey with the student body, a structured electronic questionnaire, totaling 283 respondents.

The contents covered about digital colors in public higher education courses in graphic design in Brazil are partially aligned with the current needs for the use of digital tools in professional practice. Finally, it is recommended to update the curriculum content related to digital colors in higher education in graphic design.
